Homecoming & Family Weekend Events for Saturday, October 3, 2015.

Homecoming/Family Weekend Registration 

9:00am – Noon  |  Franklin Lawn

Alumni! Families! Visitors! Look for the Alumni Office tent adjacent to the panther at Franklin Hall to check in for the weekend. Pick up your day program, find information about the weekend, and get a campus map showcasing the beauty of the Ferrum College campus.

Panther Tracks- 5k Run/Walk

8:00 Registration  |  8:45 am Race Starts, Hart Plaza

Students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff are welcome to join this annual on-campus fundraiser. Race starts on Wiley Drive from the parking lot at Hart Plaza. Healthy snacks provided. Post-race prizes will be awarded at the finish. All proceeds benefit the Saint James United Methodist Church Food Bank. Registration fee is $20.00 per person. Students can donate five non-perishable food items in lieu of payment.

Golden Panthers Annual Fall Celebration & Induction of the 50th Reunion Class of 1965

8:30 – 10:00 am  |  Panther’s Den, Franklin Hall

Registration at 8:30 am. Pick up packets and Homecoming Day Schedule. Breakfast at 9:00 am followed by the Class of ’65 Induction Ceremony.

If you attended Ferrum College 50+ years ago you are a Golden Panther (GP) and always invited to attend GP events! Welcome the Class of 1965 to the group, learn about upcoming Golden Panther excursions, and get the latest news from Golden Panther Chair Jim Clark ’62.  Meet a Golden Panther Endowed Scholarship recipient and hear more about what this generous fund can accomplish from George Seals, Director of Planned and Principal Gifts.

Reserved Parking with shuttle service will be located in the Parking lot located on Ferrum Mountain Road just behind Grousbeck and the bookstore.

"Meet the Faculty" Open House for Families

Current students and their families are invited to stop by the Saari Faculty House to meet the Deans and faculty representatives from each of the schools – Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences & Mathematics, and Social Sciences & Professional Studies. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a doughnut while you get to know your student’s professors.

Visit to the Blue Ridge Institute & Farm Museum

10:00 am – 4:00 pm  |  Blue Ridge Institute

Visit the Blue Ridge Institute & Farm Museum and check out the newest exhibition, Virginia’s Forgotten Canneries. The BRI is the State Center for Blue Ridge Folklore and features a living history nineteenth century farm complete with period animals and gardens.


Softball Reunion

This annual event highlights the very best of Ferrum College alumni. This is your opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of notable alumni and athletes. This year we will also recognize our reunion classes (1965, 1985 and 2005) and the 1965 50th Anniversary National Championship football team and welcome them all back to campus.

Homecoming Tailgates

Everyone is welcome! Grab your friends and family, pack your coolers, grills, awnings, and picnic baskets! Celebrate Homecoming with some pregame food, fun, and visits with classmates and former professors. We’ll supply the space, a children’s entertainment area, and the music. Plan to arrive early to claim your space!

This year student groups and organizations will be competing for “The Most Spirited Panther” award. Don’t forget to visit their tents and vote on your favorite!

1965 National Football Championship Team 50th Reunion

Yes, it’s been 50 years since the team beat top-ranked McCook for the National Junior College Athletic Association championship! Hard to believe? So come back to campus, swap stories with Coach Norton and your former teammates, grab a pregame bite to eat, and toast to Ferrum football - past and present. 


Bonner Scholar Reunion

Can you believe Ferrum College graduated the first Bonner Scholar class 20 years ago? If you were a member of this college community service program here’s your chance to get together, meet your fellow Scholars for some memory sharing, and find out what everyone’s been doing for the past two decades. Class of 1985 30th Reunion Tailgate

In 1985 a gallon of gas was $1.09, a postage stamp was only 22 cents, and no one had a cell phone! President Reagan and the new Soviet Leader Gorbachev met for the first time and you were listening to “We Are the World” and Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing”. Oh! How times have changed! It’s your 30th Reunion! A tailgate space on Bassett Field will be especially reserved for you and your classmates. This is your chance to get together for some pregame memory swapping before cheering on the current Panthers to a victory!

Homecoming Football Game

Football is the anchor of the Homecoming weekend! Help fill the stands and cheer for Coach Dave Harper '89 and the Panthers as they take on The Pride of Greensboro College in this year’s Homecoming match up. Half-time presentations will include special recognition of the Alumni Award winners and the 2015 Homecoming Court. Don’t forget to wear your black and gold and share your Panther spirit!

Volleyball Game

In their second match of the day, the women’s volleyball team take on William Peace University.  Wear your black and gold and cheer on the team as they strive to be a contender for the USA South title.


Angel Country Band

Relax after the football game and treat yourself to some Homestead Creamery ice cream while you enjoy our own Ferrum classic country and Rockabilly band, Angel Country.


Iron Blade Reunion

5:00 pm  |  Panthers Den, Franklin Hall

Sixty years ago, Ferrum College began to publish a newspaper to inform students of current events on campus.  The current Iron Blade is an online publication available to everyone. What great memories you must have and good stories to tell about the hours you spent gathering information, taking photographs and writing stories! Come let current staff members learn about “the good old days” and how times have changed in this competitive field. Refreshments and beverages will be provided.
