Advance Auto Parts’ director and former president continues to provide strategic leadership
to the company.
Jim Wade, former Advance Auto Parts president and current director, will serve as
Ferrum College’s next Executive in Residence on Tues., Nov. 19, 2013. In addition
to sharing his career experiences with students in a number of classes, Wade will
give a keynote address to which the public is invited in the Blue Ridge Mountain Room
in Franklin Hall at 11:15 a.m. A live stream of his address may also be accessed here.
Prior to joining Advance Auto Parts in February 1994, Wade was vice president, finance
and operations, for S.H. Heironimus, Inc., a regional department store company. As
a member of Advance’s executive team, Wade held several key senior executive roles,
including executive vice president and chief financial officer, before becoming the
company’s president in January 2009 and serving in that position until January 2012.
A member of Advance’s board of directors since September 2011, Wade continues to provide
strategic leadership for the company and played an integral role in Advance’s acquisition
of B.W.P. Distributors, Inc.
Through his experience in various executive roles, Wade has developed extensive business,
finance, distribution, marketing and leadership skills, as well as an understanding
of strategic business planning, risk assessment and store operations. Wade serves
on the board of Lumber Liquidators, a publicly traded company, and non-profit organizations
such as the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Center
and Center in the Square. Wade also represents Advance on the Coalition for Auto Repair
Equality. He has served on numerous other non-profit boards and is an active supporter
of many local community initiatives.
The Executive in Residence initiative at Ferrum College brings the real world business
experience of current and retired business professionals to campus. Guest executives
tour the College, audit classes, interact with students and faculty, and are asked
to deliver a lecture sharing their personal experiences and philosophies. Speakers
offer insight on the knowledge, skills and leadership qualities necessary for a successful
