Michael FriedlanderMichael Friedlander is the founding Executive Director of the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI) and the Senior Dean for Research at VTC School of Medicine where he is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. The VTCRI currently has 25 medical research teams with over $50M in active research funding and has generated over $100M in research expenditures with an estimated quarter billion dollar impact on the local economy. Friedlander also serves as the Associate Provost for Health Sciences at Virginia Tech where he is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and in the School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences. He previously served as the Wilhelmina Robertson Endowed Professor of Neuroscience, Chair of the Department of Neuroscience and Director of Neuroscience Initiatives at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Prior to that, he was Professor and Founding Chairman of the Department of Neurobiology, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics Founding Director of the Neurobiology Research Center, Director of the Civitan International Research Center for Intellectual Disabilities and the first McKnight Endowed Professor of Learning and Memory in Aging at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
