Generals Sweep Women's Tennis Honors

FERRUM, Va. - Washington and Lee University swept all three major awards on the 2009 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis All-State team.  Katie Tabb and Eric Ishida earned Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, for the second straight year each.  The Generals' Ellen Yeatman earned Rookie of the Year honors.  Tabb and Yeatman are both  first-team All-State selections.

Tabb posted a 16-6 overall record at #1 singles and a 20-7 record at #1 doubles.  She competed in the NCAA Division III Tournament, losing in the second round in singles and falling in the quarterfinals in doubles.  She was a first-team All-ODAC player in both singles and doubles.

Yeatman was 13-6 in singles, mostly in the #2 spot, and 14-4 in doubles.  She was the 2009 ODAC Rookie of the Year, first team All-ODAC at #2 singles and first team at #3 doubles.  Yeatman competed in the NCAA Tournament in singles.

Ishida led the Generals to a 20-5 overall record and a perfect 10-0 ODAC mark.  The Generals advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, reached as high as #2 in the national rankings and were never ranked lower than #5 nationally.

Joining Tabb and Yeatman on the All-State first team are Imee Bautista and Megan Crook of Virginia Wesleyan College, Becky Morse-Karzen of the University of Mary Washington and Maggie Bai of Hollins University.

Second team All-State honorees include Courtney Goimarac, Kate Malpelli and Katie Schafer of Mary Washington, Jen Snyder and Meg Spalitta of Washington and Lee, and Jessica Hill of Bridgewater College.
