Moss, Shulman, Bates Top Men's Tennis All-State Team
FERRUM, Va. - The 2009 VaSID College Division
Men's Tennis All-State Team has been announced and
Hampden-Sydney College's William Moss and Murrie Bates have
been named Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.
Christopher Newport University's Eric Shulman earned Rookie of
the Year honors.

College Division Men's Tennis All-State Team
Moss posted a 14-2 record in singles this season en route to
earning his third consecutive ODAC Player of the Year honor.
Moss was the ODAC's Scholar-Athlete of the year and was ranked
as high #10 in the Atlantic-South Region this season.
Bates led Hampden-Sydney to a 14-6 overall record, including
an 8-1 ODAC mark. The Tigers won their first ODAC
Tournament title since 1982 and advanced to the second round
of the NCAA Tournament.
Shulman went 14-7 at #1 singles and 16-6 at #1 doubles for the
Captains as a freshman this Year. He was an
All-Conference first team selection this year as well as the
USA South Rookie of the Year.
Joining Moss on the All-State first team are John James and
Randy Loden of the University of Mary Washington, Jeremy Becht
of Washington and Lee University, Brian Remsch of Bridgewater
College and Rich Pugh of Hampden-Sydney.
Joining Shulman on the All-State second team are Juuso
Tapanainen and Dean Looke of Averett University, Ben Faas of
Washington and Lee, Philip Parrish of Hampden-Sydney, and Jon
Roy of Roanoke College.
