Roanoke’s Mason, Pilat Headline '07
Men’s Lacrosse All-State Team
ASHLAND, Va. --- Roanoke College senior Jon Mason and his
coach Bill Pilat have been recognized as the Virginia Sports
Information Directors (VaSID) State Player and Coach of the
Year as the organization announced its All-State Men’s
Lacrosse Teams Friday afternoon.
2007 VaSID College Division Men's Lacrosse All-State Team
Named ODAC Player-of-the Year and an all-league first-team
member earlier this season, Mason (Orangeville Ontario,
Canada) was recently honored as the Lt. Col. J. I. (Jack)
Turnbull - NCAA Division III Attack Player of the Year. As
the Turnbull Award Winner, Mason earned First Team NCAA
Division III All-America honors as well.
This season, Mason led the Maroons and the Nation with 75
goals, while he also dished out 16 assists for a total of 91
points. A three time All-American, Mason amassed 247 career
goals and 35 assists for 282 points. His career goals and
points are tops in the Roanoke record books.
Pilat receives top coaching honors in the Commonwealth for
the third consecutive year. This season, Pilat led the
Maroons to a school record 15 wins, a second consecutive
ODAC Championship, a trip to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA
Tournament, and a final National ranking of seven for the
2007 season. For his efforts, Pilat was named ODAC Coach
of the Year for the eighth time in his 19 seasons at the
helm of the RC program.
