Mary Washington Tops 2008 College Division All-Sports Survey


NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The University of Mary Washington won 71.9% of its athletic contests in 2007-08 to claim the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey title.

The survey ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage.  This is the highest finish for the Eagles since coming in second in the 2003-04 season.

University of Mary Washington edged out Christopher Newport University in this competition by .005 as the Captains won 71.4% of their contests.  CNU won 77.6% of its  women’s contests to lead the state, while Virginia Union University won 67.4% of its men’s contests to take that honor.

Washington & Lee University was third overall winning 68.4% of its contests, while Virginia Wesleyan College took fourth winning 65.0% of its games.  Lynchburg College rounded out the top five winning 61.4%.

The Eagles also had the most appearances in national tournaments with nine teams qualifying.  Christopher Newport University and Washington & Lee University were next with six while Lynchburg College was next with five.
