Lynchburg’s Curran, VWC’s Stewart, Roanoke’s
Quinton Highlight Men’s Lacrosse Team
ASHLAND, VA – Lynchburg College senior goalkeeper Garrett
Curran has been named the 2008 Virginia Sports Information
Directors (VaSID) Player of the Year, as the organization
announced its All-State team on Thursday. Virginia Wesleyan
College field general J.P. Stewart was named Coach of the
Year, while Roanoke attack Matt Quinton was named the Rookie
of the Year.

Curran was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
Scholar and Player of the Year and was also a second-team
All-American. This season, he allowed just 100 goals for a
6.35 goals against average and recorded 171 saves for a
63.1% save percentage. He also scooped up a team-high 90
ground balls. He helped LC to the ODAC Championship, a
Second-Round NCAA contest and a 16-3 overall record.
Stewart guided the Marlins to a program record 11 victories
in 18 games and to a program record 4-2 finish in the ODAC.
He also helped VWC to its first appearance in the ODAC
championship tournament and to a runner-up finish. For his
efforts, he was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.
Quinton made the most of his first Maroons season by ranking
near the top of two scoring categories in the ODAC. He
finished second in the conference in goals per game with a
2.64 mark. He was also fourth in points per game at 3.57 an
outing (37 goals, 13 assists, 50 points). His high-game of
the year came against Hood in which he notched five goals to
go with four assists.
