Applegate, Bautista, Rankin Earn Women's Tennis Honors

FERRUM, Va. – After leading Washington and Lee University to the NCAA Division III title, Emily Applegate and Cinda Rankin have repeated as VaSID Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, on the 2007 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis All-State Team.  Virginia Wesleyan College's Imee Bautista has been named Rookie of the Year.

2007 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis All-State Team

Applegate was the singles runner-up at the 2007 NCAA Tournament, a year removed from winning the singles title.  She went 17-2 in singles and 16-4 in doubles, earning 2007 First Team All-America honors in both singles and doubles.  Applegate is a five-time All-American for her career, a three-time first team All-ODAC selection, and two-time ODAC Player of the Year.  She closed out her career with a 65-6 singles record and 58-14 doubles mark.

Bautista was the
2007 ODAC Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-ODAC selection in doubles for the Marlins.  She went 26-6 in singles and 27-3 in doubles, for an impressive 53-9 overall record playing #1 singles and #1 doubles.  Bautista helped Virginia Wesleyan register it's best ever team record at 18-2.

Rankin led Washington and Lee to a 25-1 record and the '07 NCAA title.  She was named the ITA Atlantic South Coach of the Year and Wilson/ITA Division III National Coach of the Year.

All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association.  Although VaSID has been awarding All-State teams since the 1982-83 school year, this is only the second women's tennis All-State team.  For more information, please visit the VaSID site at
