Cubbage, Fulk, Ruitenberg Earn College Division All-State Team Top Honors

EMORY, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) selected Lynchburg College outfielder Caroline Cubbage as the Virginia State College Division Player of the Year. Meanwhile, Donnie Fulk of Bridgewater College was named the VaSID Coach of the Year and Roanoke College’s Kelsey Ruitenberg was named VaSID Rookie of the Year among the college division (Divisions II and III). Cubbage and Fulk both earned their honors for the second year in a row.

2007 VaSID College Division All-State Softball Team

Player of the Year: Cubbage, a senior from Bridgewater, VA … Three time All-American, earning 1st team All-American status this season … Two-time ODAC Player of the Year (2006 and 2007) … Two-Time VaSID Player of the Year (2006 and 2007) …. Batted .488 this season with 15 Home Runs, 12 Doubles, 56 RBI and a .959 Slugging Pct … She was walked 54 times and had a .654 On-Base pct. … 121 AB, 61 Runs, 59 Hits …. Helped to lead Lynchburg to the ODAC Tournament Title and a birth in the NCAA Playoffs in which Lynchburg made the final 16 …. Shattered school records in home runs, RBI, walks, Slugging pct. and games played.

Coach of the Year: Donnie Fulk earned this honor for the second year in a row. Under the leadership of Fulk, Bridgewater finished with a 40-8 record, setting a new team record for wins in a season … Bridgewater made the first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the championship round at the New Concord Regionals ….. Bridgewater finished first in the ODAC regular season standings with a 17-1 record.

Rookie of the Year: Kelsey Ruitenberg, First Base/Pitcher, Freshman, Roanoke College, Hometown: Geneva, IL ….. Named ODAC Rookie of the Year … Batted .337, 98 AB, 12 Runs, 33 Hits, 3-HR, 4-2B, 31 RBI …. 1.02 ERA, 68 IP, 63 SO, 8-3 W/L record, .180 Opp. Batting Avg.
