Mook, Pugh, Cole Top Men's Tennis Team
FERRUM, Va. – Christopher Newport University's John Mook and
Rush Cole have been named Player and Coach of the Year,
respectively, topping the 2008 College Division
All-State Men's Tennis Team, as voted upon by the Virginia
Sports Information Directors. Hampden-Sydney College
freshman Rich Pugh earned Rookie of the Year honors.

College Division Men's Tennis All-State Team
Mook went 18-3 in singles this season, the last half of the
season in the #1 spot. He also went 21-4 at #1 doubles, for a stellar
39-7 overall mark. He was the USA South Athletic
Conference's Player of the Year and a first team
All-Conference selection. Mook qualified for the NCAA
Tournament in both singles and doubles, earned All-America
honors in each.
Cole led the Captains to a 20-4 overall record, including
regular season and tournament championships in the USA
South. Christopher Newport qualified for it's
first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, winning a round before
being eliminated. Cole was the USA South Coach of the
Year, the ITA Atlantic-South regional Coach of the Year, as
well as the ITA National Coach of the Year.
Pugh went 15-2 at #2 singles and 13-0 at #1 doubles, for a
28-2 overall mark. Pugh helped the Tigers post a 14-3
overall record this season.
Joining Mook on the All-State first team are University of
Mary Washington's John James and Randy Loden, Washington and
Lee University's Tim Ros and Nat Estes, and Hampden-Sydney
College's Will Moss.
Second team honorees include Pugh, Christopher Newport's
Eddie Glidewell, Mary Washington's Kaz Murata and Jason
Dunn, Bridgewater's Brian Remsch and Ryan Radke, and
UVA-Wise's Henning Kuich.
All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia
Sports Information Directors Association. For more
