Lynchburg Sweeps Top College Division Softball Honors

EMORY, Va. -- Lynchburg College dominated this season's VaSID All-State Softball awards as the 39-8 Hornets swept the Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year honors.

Elizabeth Perkins, a unanimous selection first-team All-State selection at her third base position, earned this season's Player of the Year honor after batting .425 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and 11 home runs.

Pitcher Katie Bruce (1.49 ERA) was tabbed the Rookie of the Year after striking out 168 batters and collecting 20 wins in 29 decisions.

Head Coach Dawn Simmons earned VaSID Coach of the Year honors after leading her team to a Regional Championship and the College’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Div.isionIII National Championship Tournament (Final Eight) held in Salem, Virginia.
