ASHLAND, Va.
-- After leading the Washington and Lee University Generals to their fourth straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship and the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament, senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, VA) has been named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) college division state women’s lacrosse Player of the Year.  Washington and Lee's Jan Hathorn and Averett University's Katie Talbert have been selected Co-Coaches of the Year.

2006 VaSID College Division Women's Lacrosse All-State Team

Strickler was named the 2006 ODAC Player of the Year, and was first-team all-conference for the second straight season.  Last year as a junior she was second-team all-South Atlantic Region and second-team all-state.  Strickler has also been selected to participate in the annual Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association North/South Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for Saturday, June 10th at Johns
Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  She started in all 20 games for the Generals this year, and her statistics included 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 total points, plus 38 ground balls.  Strickler was first on her team in assists and total points, second in goals and third in ground balls.

Two of Strickler’s Washington and Lee teammates have also been named first-team all-state:  senior defender Rachel Wallick (
Phoenix, MD) and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, CT).

Virginia Wesleyan College has three first-team selections:  senior midfielder Laura Wallace (
Bridgewater, NJ), senior defender Kristen Jehl (Campton, NH), and sophomore midfielder Jillian Boyd (Warrenton, VA).

Two schools have two first-team selections each – from Christopher Newport University, junior attacker Kristen Conques (Fairfax, VA) and junior midfielder Kristyn Hankins (Charlottesville, VA), and from University of Mary Washington, senior defender Caitlin O’Leary (Westbury, NY) and junior attacker Kaitlyn Barker (Kennebunk, ME).

In addition, Averett
University freshman midfielder Vanessa Jordan (Westbrook, ME) and Randolph-Macon College senior midfielder Liz Lombardo (Baltimore, MD) have been named first-team all-state.

This year Washington and Lee was 16-4 overall, setting a program record for wins in a season, and a perfect 8-0 in the ODAC en route to the fourth straight conference title for the Generals.  Hathorn was named the ODAC Coach of the Year for the eighth time overall and the fifth time in the last six seasons.  The tenth-ranked Generals were defeated in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament by the fourth-ranked Lions of The College of New Jersey, who won their 13th overall and second straight national championship with a 10-4 win over top-ranked and previously undefeated Gettysburg College.

The Averett Cougars, with no wins in the school’s first three seasons of varsity women’s lacrosse, finished 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the USA South Athletic Conference in the program’s fourth year, advancing to the conference semifinals.  Talbert was the USA South Coach of the Year.
