Adair, Macedo Repeat All-State Top Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – VA Wesleyan’s Brandon Adair was
named the 2007 Virginia Sports Information Director’s (VaSID)
College Division Men’s Basketball Player of the Year while
Marlins Head Coach David Macedo was named Coach of the
Year.
2007 VaSID College Division Men's Basketball All-State Team
Adair was named the organization’s top honor last season when
he helped guide the Marlins to the Division III National
Title. In 2007, as a senior, Adair averaged 17.7 points per
game and led the squad in field goals made, field goal
percentage, rebounding and scoring. He became the first player
in school history to score more than 2,000 points and finished
his career as the program’s all-time leading scorer. He was
the 2006 NABC National Player of the Year, a four-time
All-ODAC performer, three-time All-South honoree and helped
lead his team back to the national title game in 2007.
Macedo guided his squad to a 28-5 record in 2006-2007 and was
the NCAA Division III runner-up this season after winning the
national title a season ago. He is the most successful men’s
basketball coach in VA Wesleyan history and currently ranks in
the top-10 in the nation in winning percentage. Macedo took
home VaSID’s top coaching honors a year ago.
Joining Adair on the First Team are teammate TonTon Balenga,
Washington & Lee’s Greg Bienemann, Shenandoah’s
Jeremiah Lawrence, and Eastern Mennonite’s Jason Sager.
Balenga, a junior, averaged 15.1 points and led his team in
three-point field goals made (72), three-point field goals
attempted, free throws made (125) and attempted, and free
throw percentage (87.4). Eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark
this year and has twice been named All-ODAC and All-State.
Currently ranks second in school history in three-point field
goals made and attempted.
Bienemann, also a junior, averaged 17.8 points and 6.8
rebounds per game. He also shot 56.1% from the floor and 68%
from the foul line. He was tied for second in the ODAC in
scoring and fifth in rebounding. He scored in double figures
in 22 of his team’s 25 games. He was a First Team All-ODAC
performer, the first at W&L since 1996.
Lawrence, another junior, led his team in scoring, rebounding
and blocked shots. He averaged 17.2 points and 9.4 rebounds.
Was a pre-season Honorable Mention All-American by Street and
Smith Magazine. Named the Hampden-Sydney Tournament’s Most
Valuable player. Scored his 1,000th career point
this year and was a First Team All-USA South performer. Was
also named to d3hoops.com’s All-South Region squad. Lawrence
was also an All-State selection a year ago.
EMU’s Sager rounds out the First Team All-State squad. Sager
averaged 17.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He was a First
Team All-ODAC honoree and finished the year with eight
double-doubles. He finished his career fourth in school
