JMU’s Alexis and UVA’s Wright Earn
Top Honors on VaSID All-State Women’s Basketball Team
NORFOLK, Va.
– The 2006-07 VaSID All-State Women’s Basketball team was
headlined by James Madison senior center Meredith Alexis
as Player of the Year and Virginia’s Monica Wright
as Rookie of the Year. JMU head coach Kenny Brooks took
the top coaching honor for the 2006-07 season.

Alexis (Hanover, Pa.), an AP All-American Honorable Mention,
was named CAA Player of the Year and Richmond
Times-Dispatch Player of the Year before earning the VaSID
honor. She became just the second player in Colonial Athletic
Association history to be named to the All-CAA team all four
years of her career. She led the conference and was seventh in
the nation in rebounding (11.6 rpg) and was second in the
conference and 37th nationwide in scoring (18.4 ppg).
Alexis is a WNBA Draft Camp selection as she finished her
career with numerous records. She holds the school career
marks for points (1,760), rebounds (1,313), double-figure
rebounding games (75) and double-doubles (63). During her
senior campaign, she broke school single-season records for
points (607), rebounds (339), double-doubles (22), and
double-figure rebounding games (23). She was named the CAA
Player of the Week a league-leading six times and became the
conference’s All-Time Career rebounding leader with a grand
total of 1,313 boards.
After becoming the unanimous selection as the ACC Rookie of
the Year, Wright (Woodbridge, Va.), is also the unanimous
selection for VaSID Rookie of the Year. She became the most
decorated freshman in Cavalier history by earning ACC Rookie
of the Week eight times this season. She started every game
while finishing second in team scoring (15.1 ppg) and
rebounding (6.0 rpg). She also led UVA in steals with 79 and
finished second in assists with 76.
Brooks, also the CAA Coach of the Year, led his team to a
school-record 25 regular-season wins, including a 16-2 record
in conference play. He coached his team to a four-week
appearance on the AP Top 25 Poll and into the NCAA Tournament
as a #9 seed. His team also owns the longest current home
winning streak in NCAA D-I at 26 games.
The rest of the first team includes Megan Frazee (Liberty),
T.J. Jordan (Old Dominion), Lyndra Littles (Virginia), and
Tamera Young (James Madison).
Frazee (Xenia, Ohio) was an All-Big South first team
selection, a Richmond-Times Dispatch First Team
All-State selection, and to ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District First Team. She led the Big South in rebounding
(8.5 rpg), free-throw percentage (.772) and three-point
percentage (.410).
Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) was a First Team All-CAA selection
and CAA Tournament MVP for the second year in a row. She was
ranked fourth nationally in three-pointers per game (3.1) and
reset numerous three-point marks for Old Dominion. She led the
team and was ninth in the conference in scoring at 14.5 ppg.
Littles (Washington, DC) scored nearly 600 points in her
sophomore campaign and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.
She led UVA in scoring (17.3 ppg) and in rebounding (8.8 rpg)
and she set single-season records for free throws made with
153 and points by a sophomore with 589.
Young (Wilmington, NC), the second Duke on the first team, was
also named to the Richmond Times-Dispatch First Team
and was an All-CAA First Team selection for the second year in
a row. She was second on the team in scoring (16.5 ppg),
rebounding (8.0 rpg), and assists (2.3 apg).
