In helping lead the Lady Flames to the Big South Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament first round, Feenstra (pictured above left) was named the Big South Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and the Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament MVP for the second year in a row. Feenstra averaged a double-double for the season, averaging 21.1 points and 11.0 rebounds a game, while posting 21 double-doubles during the season. During the 2003-04 season, she became only the ninth Liberty player ever to reach the 1,000 point milestone, and the fourth to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds.

Bonnie Hendrickson (above right) was named the 2003-04 VaSID Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, after leading Virginia Tech to the NCAA Second Round and a 23-8 record. During the course of the year, the Hokies played nine schools that made it to the NCAA Tournament before defeating Iowa in the first round of the Tournament and dropping a second round game to Penn State. Virginia Tech won 20 games this year for the seventh straight year under Hendrickson.

This year’s All-State Team has several new faces, with only four of the 10 total players being selected to the 2002-03 team. Katie Feenstra is on the first team for the second consecutive year, while the University of Richmond’s Kate Flavin and George Mason’s Jen Derevjanik moved up to the first team this year after making it to the second team last year. Hampton’s Nicole Brathwaite and Virginia Commonwealth’s Cyndy Wilks are making their first appearance on the all-state team, both making this year’s first team. On the second team, only Virginia Tech’s Ieva Kublina has previously been named to the all-state team, making the first team in 2002-03. Old Dominion’s Monique Coker and Max Nhassengo are making their first appearances, as are George Mason’s Vernessa Neamo and Hampton’s Saona Chapman.
