William & Mary’s Zimmeck Headlines VaSID
All-State Women’s Soccer Team
RICHMOND, Va. – William &
Mary sophomore forward
Claire Zimmeck and head coach
John Daly were
named the 2006 VaSID All-State University Division Player and
Coach of the Year, respectively, while James Madison freshman
midfielder Corky Julien
earned Rookie of the Year honors, headlining the 2006 VaSID
All-State team.

Zimmeck (Fairfax, Va.), also the 2006 CAA Player of the Year
and a Soccer Buzz
All-America Fourth Team selection, led the conference in goals
(14) and game-winners (six), while ranking second in points
(32). Additionally, the Fairfax, Va., native was recently
selected to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team by
Soccer Buzz and
the NSCAA.
Zimmeck played especially well toward the end of the regular
season, totaling 10 goals in the final six matches. She
finished the year ranked 15th in the nation in goals per match
(0.74) and 18th in points per match (1.68). She also garnered
numerous national accolades earlier the season after scoring
seven goals during a three-match span in mid-October,
including being selected as the national player of the week by
Soccer Times,
Soccer America
and Top Drawer Soccer. Zimmeck was also tabbed to the
Soccer Buzz Elite
Team of the Week and was twice named CAA Player of the Week.
Daly, also the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and
Co-CAA Coach of the Year, led his team to a 16-1-4 season and
CAA regular season championship with a 10-0-1 mark. Daly
guided the Tribe to an NCAA Tournament berth for the 14th
time in the last 15 years, closing out the year on a
school-record 17-match unbeaten streak.
Julien (Williamstown, Ontario), a CAA All-Rookie Team
selection, earns the honor after leading her team as a
freshman with nine goals, including four game-winners, in
addition to chipping in five assists for a total of 13
points. She was named the CAA Rookie of the Week and selected
to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
The 2006 VaSID University Women’s Soccer team was nominated by
and voted upon by sports information directors at colleges and
universities throughout the Commonwealth.
All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia
