Warner, Travis Headline College Men’s Soccer All-State Team

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Randolph-Macon College senior goalkeeper Nick Warner (Timonium, MD) has been named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, while Virginia Wesleyan College head coach Sonny Travis was picked as the VaSID Coach of the Year.

Warner had a standout season in the net for the Yellow Jackets in 2005.  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year earned first team all-conference nods after leading the league with a 0.70 goals-against-average, while making 71 saves, allowing just 12 goals and posting an .855 save percentage in just over 1,500 minutes of action.

Travis meanwhile, led his Marlins to a 14-6-1 overall finish and their second Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship in three years.  On the year, Travis led his team to the ODAC regular season title, tournament title and to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time.

Joining Warner on the VaSID All-State First Team are Virginia Wesleyan’s Kelvin Murray (Virginia Beach, VA) and Marymount University’s Justin Kessler (Oak Hill, VA) at forward, VWC’s Ryan Cassell (Herndon, VA), Bridgewater’s John Costello (Midlothian, VA), Christopher Newport’s Daniel Fogarty (Grafton, VA) and Eastern Mennonite’s Adam Shank (Harrisonburg, VA) at midfielder and CNU’s Matt Page (Newport News, VA), Roanoke’s Donny Smith (Roanoke, VA), Randolph-Macon’s Jamie Flynn (Baltimore, MD) and Lynchburg’s Drew Jamison (New Castle, DE) at defender.

Emory and Henry freshman Elliott Anderson (Ooltewah, TN) led the way at forward for the VaSID All-State Second Team, along with CNU’s Galen Small (Yorktown, VA) and Roanoke’s Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ), while CNU’s Derek Shaw (Harrisonburg, VA), Virginia Wesleyan’s Damien Woodley (Bristow, VA) and Randolph-Macon’s Matt Cooper (Edgewood, MD) earned second team honors at midfield and CNU’s Bryan Davis (Barhamsville, VA), Virginia Wesleyan’s Chris Mills (Virginia Beach, VA), Washington and Lee’s Derek Lott (Knoxville, TN) and Marymount’s Jeff Hoke (Ashburn, VA) earned second team nods at defender.  Eastern Mennonite’s Tim Koehn (Harrisonburg, VA) was named second team goalkeeper.
