CNU's Fogarty Headlines VaSID All-State Men’s Soccer Team


ASHLAND, Va. -- Christopher Newport University’s Daniel Fogarty has earned the 2006 Player of the Year Award as the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Men’s Soccer Team was announced Thursday.  Virginia Wesleyan College’s Brandon Massie was named Rookie of the Year, while Lynchburg College’s Chris Yeager earned Coach of the Year honors.

The 2006 USA-South Player-of-the-Year, Fogarty is a native of Yorktown, Pa. and scored 12 goals, added six assists for a total of 30 points this season.  Fogarty helped lead CNU to a 15-5-2 overall record, a 5-0-1 mark in league play and a trip to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament.

Massie earned VaSID Men’s Soccer Rookie-of-the-Year honors after garnering the same award earlier this season in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. For the season, Massie scored six goals and added five assists for 17 points to rank second among scorers for the 14-5-3 Marlins this season; the highest scoring rookie at VWC since 1994.

LC field general Chris Yeager was honored as the VaSID Coach-of-the-Year after leading the Hornets to their first ODAC title since 1987 and their first NCAA bid in 24 seasons. LC went 14-5-2 overall and 6-1-2 in league. Yeager was named ODAC Coach of the Year and LC won nine-straight matches going into the NCAA Tournament.
