Lynchburg’s Johnson Earns
Women’s Soccer Player of the Year
CNU’s Lloyd Named VaSID Coach of the Year
Ferrum, Va. – Lynchburg College goalkeeper
Erin Johnson (Davidsonville, Md.)
has been named Player of the Year on the 2004 College Division
Women’s Soccer All-State team, as voted upon by the Virginia
Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Christopher Newport
University’s Kwame Lloyd has been named VaSID Coach of the
Year.

Johnson
played 2,030 minutes in goal for the Hornets, allowing just
six goals all season. She recorded a 0.27 goals-against
average, made 72 saves and posted 13 shutouts. Johnson was
the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and
Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was named to the All-ODAC
first team, the ODAC All-Tournament team, and the CoSIDA
Academic All-District team. Johnson helped lead the Hornets
to an impressive 22-2-1 record, including a perfect 11-0 ODAC
regular season mark. Lynchburg won the ODAC regular season
and tournament titles, and advanced to the round of 16 at the
NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer tournament.
Lloyd
coached the Captains to 16-4-3 record, the school’s best
women’s soccer finish to date. CNU captured the USA South
Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, and
advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. The Captains
were eliminated by eventual NCAA champion Wheaton College of
Illinois. Lloyd was the 2004 USA South Women’s Soccer Coach
of the Year.

Johnson on the All-State first team from Lynchburg are
defenders Lauren Askey
(Baltimore, Md.)
and Taryn Wyckoff (Rahway, N.J.).
Christopher Newport also had three players named to the first
team; midfielders Ashleigh Dota
(Woodbridge, Va.)
and Nikki
Greenberg (Fairfax Station, Va.),
and forward Emily Renkin
(Midlothian, Va.).
Washington and Lee University had a pair of players make the
first team in forward Anne
Wilshire (Richmond, Va.)
and defender
Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa).
Rounding out the first team selections were University of Mary
Washington forward Kathryn

Randolph-Macon College forward
Rachel McLoughlin (West Chester, Pa.),
and Roanoke College midfielder
Emily Ocheltree (Richmond, Va.).
