Nancy Howlett, Head Coach

Nancy Castillo Howlett joined the Ferrum athletics staff as Head Volleyball Coach in July of 2005.  Howlett previously served as head volleyball coach at Franklin County High School from 1991-2003, leading the Eagles to a 178-90 record in 13 years at the helm of the program of the Eagle volleyball program.  She also served five years prior to that as Franklin County High School's ninth-grade and JV coach. 

Howlett led Franklin County to four Western Valley District titles (previously the Roanoke Valley District), and was named District Coach of the Year in 1993, 1994, 1998, 2002, and 2003.  The Roanoke Times named Howlett the Timesland Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1994 and 2003.  The Eagles qualified for the regionals 10 times, including in 2003, when Franklin County advanced to the state tournament.

Howlett received her bachelor's degree from Emory & Henry College in 1985, then earned her master's degree in education from Lynchburg College in 1992.  She prepped at Patrick Henry High School in Glade Spring, Virginia, where she was a four-year player for the Rebel volleyball team.  Howlett resides in Boones Mill, Virginia, with her husband John.  She is the mother of three children, a son Devin, and two daughters Sarah and Carly.

Andy Flora joined the Ferrum volleyball coaching staff in July of 2005.  Flora spent nine years coaching volleyball at Franklin County High School, six as Assistant Varsity Coach and three as Head JV Coach.  His JV teams were 42-8 the past three seasons.

Flora is a health and physical education teacher at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount.  He earned his bachelor's degree from Radford University in 1992 and his master's degree from Radford in 1994.  Flora and his wife Jenny reside in Rocky Mount with their son Jacob.
