Devvarman Named Men's Tennis Player
of the Year
Boland of Virginia and Juneau of
W&M named Coach & Rookie of the Year
WILLIAMSBURG (7/30/07) - The University of Virginia
Cavaliers headlined the Men’s Tennis University Division All-State awards, selected by the Virginia Sports Information
Directors (VaSID). Junior Somdev Devvarman and head
coach Brian Boland were named the State Player and
Coach of the Year, the organization announced on July 30.

Division All-State Men's Tennis Team
Devvarman was the 2007 ITA National Player of the Year after
becoming the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) player to
capture the NCAA Singles Championship. The All-American in
both singles and doubles established a Virginia school record
for wins in a season, posting a 44-5 singles ledger. He ended
the season ranked No. 1 in the country in singles and No. 2 in
doubles. Devvarman was also named the 2007 ITA Rafael Osuna
Sportsmanship Award winner.
Boland led Virginia to not only the school’s best finish but
the highest finish ever for an ACC school. The Cavaliers
finished the year ranked No. 2 nationally after advancing to
the NCAA Semifinals. UVa posted a 30-4 dual match mark on the
way to its fourth straight ACC regular season title. The
Cavaliers were the first team to go undefeated in the 12-team
ACC format. The 30 victories on the year were a Virginia
school record.
Devvarman headlined the VaSID First Team choices. He was
joined on the squad by doubles partner Treat Huey. The
All-American duo was NCAA semifinalists in doubles after
posting a 36-8 doubles mark and was selected to the VaSID
First Team for doubles as well. Joining Devvarman and Huey on
the VaSID All-State First Team in singles were Henrique
Cancado and Harel Srugo of Old Dominion, Alex
Cojanu and Colin O’Brien of William and Mary and
Arvid Puranen of Virginia Tech. The first-team doubles was
also comprised of Srugo and Cancado of ODU and Cojanu and
O’Brien of W&M.
William and Mary freshman Keziel Juneau garnered the
VaSID Rookie of the Year honor. He was an All-Colonial
Athletic Association choice in both singles and doubles. The
Tribe rookie led W&M in singles victories with 23 on the
season.
Juneau headlined the VaSID Second Team after receiving the
accolade in both singles and doubles. Seo-Jae Chang of
Hampton, Dominic Inglot of Virginia, Martin Sayer
of Radford and Alex Seleznev of Old Dominion were also
named to the second team. The doubles second team consisted of
Inglot and Houston Barrick of Virginia, Nicolas
Delgado and Pedro Graber of Virginia and Juneau and
Cojanu of William and Mary.
