2006 VaSID College Division Men’s Tennis All-State Team
Bristow, a 2004 NCAA Division III doubles national champion,
once again made All-America honors in singles and doubles in
2006. He finished 21-13 at #1 singles for the
nationally-ranked Eagles. Bristow was the Capital
Athletic Conference Player-of-the Year, and advanced to the
quarterfinals of the singles portion of the national
championship. Bristow also qualified the doubles
tournament with partner, Randy Loden.
Wright was named the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Rookie-of-the-Year, the first for a Virginia Wesleyan tennis
player. He was also selected to the First Team All-ODAC
in single and doubles this year. Wright finished the
year 11-1 at #3 singles with a runner-up finish in the ODAC
tournament.
Helbling, who has led Mary Washington to the NCAA tournament
every year since 2000, was named the 2006 Capital Athletic
Conference Coach of the Year. His team finished with a
21-4 record this year, and advanced to the second of the NCAA
Tournament.
All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia
Sports Information Directors Association. Although VaSID has
been awarding All-State teams since the 1982-83 school year,
this is the inaugural men's tennis All-State team.
