Washington and Lee Earns VaSID
Women's Tennis Honors
FERRUM, Va. -- Washington and Lee
University swept all three major awards on the 2006 VaSID
College Division Women's Tennis All-State Team.
Junior Emily Applegate was named Player of the Year, freshman
Katie Tabb Rookie of the Year, and Cinda Rankin Coach of the
Year.
2006 VaSID College Division Women's Tennis All-State Team
Applegate capped an impressive year by winning the NCAA
Division III singles title. She closed the year with a
33-3 mark at #1 singles and was 26-7 at #1 doubles for an
impressive 59-10 overall record. She was the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference's Player of the Year and earned
All-America honors in both singles and doubles this season.
Tabb was 25-8 at #2 singles this season and was 28-7 at #2
doubles for a 53-15 overall mark. She earned All-America
in both singles and doubles, and was the ITA's Atlantic South
Rookie of the Year.
Rankin led the Generals to a #1 national ranking and a 28-1
final record. W&L lost its only match of the season in
the NCAA championship match. Rankin's team was NCAA
runner-up for the third time in the past four seasons.
W&L won an unprecedented 16th ODAC title this season.
All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors
Association.
Although VaSID has been awarding
All-State teams since the 1982-83 school year, this is the
inaugural women's tennis All-State team.
