Washington
and Lee University Wins 2007 VaSID College Division
All-Sports Survey
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Washington & Lee University, winners of
the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis National
Championship, won nearly 71% of its athletic contests in
2006-07 to win the Virginia Sports Information Directors
Association College Division All-Sports Survey. The
Generals went 220-89-5 (.709) to edge out Christopher
Newport University which went 221-98-3 (.691).
2006-07 VaSID College Division All-Sports Survey
The award annually goes to the school, on the non-Division I
level, that has the highest overall winning percentage of
all its sports. Twenty-seven schools across Virginia
participate in either NCAA Division II, III, NAIA or USCAA
competition.
Virginia Wesleyan College won the men’s portion of the
competition with a .699 percentage (88-37-3) while the
University of Mary Washington was second at .663 (91-46-1)
and Washington & Lee was third at .658 (95-49-2). On the
women’s side, Christopher Newport won that with a .758
winning percentage (142-45-1) followed by Washington & Lee
winning .753 percent of its contests (125-40-3) and in third
was the Apprentice School at .692 (18-8 in its only women’s
sport – basketball).
Along with Washington & Lee’s national championship in
women’s tennis, other state schools winning national titles
this year were Southern Virginia University (USCAA women’s
soccer and women’s cross country) and Apprentice School (USCAA
baseball).
