ASHLAND, Va. -- After leading the Roanoke College Maroons to their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship since 1997 and the semifinals of the NCAA Division III tournament, senior midfielder Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ) has been named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) college division state men’s lacrosse Player of the Year and head coach Bill Pilat is the state Coach of the Year.

2006 VaSID College Division All-State Men's Lacrosse Team

Keating
was named the ODAC Player of the Year this season, as well as first-team all-conference for the third year in a row.  He was a first-team all-state selection in men’s lacrosse last year as well as a second-team All-American, and was an Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore in 2004.  Keating played in all 18 games and started in 16 contests this season, and his statistics included 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 total points, 59 ground balls, and 7-of-13 faceoffs won (53.8%).  He was first on his team in assists, second in total points, third in goals and sixth in ground balls.  Also an outstanding soccer player, Keating was a two-time first-team all-ODAC and two-time second-team all-state selection as a forward, and was also first-team all-South Region this past fall and third-team all-region as a junior.

Joining Keating as first-team all-state selections are four of his Roanoke teammates:  senior defensemen Ben Love (Berwyn Heights, MD) and Rich Li (Dix Hills, NY), senior goalkeeper Matt Madalon (Darien, CT), and junior attackman Jon Mason (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada).

Lynchburg
College has had four players named to the first-team:  senior attackman A.J. Tinklepaugh (Annandale, VA), senior midfielder Brian Kemper (Bel Air, MD), senior defenseman Chad Clark (Fairfax, VA), and sophomore attackman Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA).

Hampden-Sydney
College has two first-team members:  junior midfielder Thomas Jennings (Murfreesboro, TN) and sophomore long-stick midfielder Colin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD).

Roanoke
finished the season at 15-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the ODAC.  Pilat was named the conference Coach of the Year for the seventh time overall and the second season in a row.  In the NCAA Division III tournament semifinals, the third-ranked Maroons took top-ranked and undefeated Salisbury University to overtime before falling 13-12.  Salisbury has won six overall NCAA titles, including the last three in a row heading into this coming weekend’s national championship game against SUNY-Cortland in Philadelphia.

All-State teams are selected by active members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association.  For more information, please visit the VaSID site at
