Cvilikis, Dawson Earn Top '05 State Men's
Soccer Honors
RICHMOND, Va. – Old Dominion
University senior forward Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch,
Colo.) was named the 2005 Virginia Sports Information
Directors (VaSID) University Division State Player of the
Year. Alan Dawson of Old Dominion was named the State
Coach of the Year.
Cvilikas was Second Team All-America by College Soccer News
and Third Team All-America by the NSCAA. Cvilikas was the
Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. He started
20 matches and led the CAA with 15 goals and 30 points.
Cvilikas was twice named a National Player of the Week.
Dawson led the Monarchs to a 15-4-2 overall record and a 9-1-1
mark in the CAA to claim the league’s regular-season title.
ODU lost 2-1 to Wake Forest in the second round of the NCAA
Tournament. The Monarchs finished the season ranked ninth by
Soccer America. ODU was the No. 10 seed in the NCAA
Tournament, its best seed in school history.
Virginia had four players on the All-State First Team. The
Cavaliers were represented by forwards Adam Cristman
and Yannick Reyering, midfielder Nico Colaluca
and defender Matt Poole. Virginia Tech had three
first-team selections, with goalkeeper Chase Harrison,
midfielder Joshua Boateng and forward Patrick Nyarko.
Old Dominion and VCU had two first-team members each. Joining
Cvilikas on first team was defender Trevor McEachron.
The Rams had defender Veit Schaidinger and midfielder
Stephen Shirley. The other members of the first team
were defender Anthony Noreiga of George Mason and
midfielder Kurt Morsink of James Madison.
The members of the VaSID All-State Second Team were goalkeeper
John Connelly of Old Dominion; defenders Alexander
Baden of Virginia Tech, Jonathan Burklo of Liberty,
Brent Dillie of Virginia Tech and Mike Tuddenham
of James Madison; midfielders Jeremy Barlow of
Virginia, Kyle Cupid of Liberty, Magnus Einarsson
of Virginia Tech and Osei Telesford of Liberty; and
forwards Adrian Bumbut of Liberty, Patrick Colas
of Radford, Charles Nweke of VMI and Colin Vint
of Richmond.
