ODU's Engle Named Player of the Year, Anders
Coach of the Year
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Old Dominion Monarchs,
2005 CAA Champions and NCAA semifinalists, were honored as
Janelle Engle and head coach Beth Anders were named Player of
the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, by the Virginia
Sports Information Directors Association.
2005 VaSID University Division Field Hockey All-State Team
Three of Engle's teammates were named to the first team while
a fifth Monarch earned second team honors. The Richmond
Spiders and the Tribe from the College of William & Mary both
had five honorees as well.
Engle was the CAA Player of the Year and earned first team
All-American honors from the
NFHCA and first team All-America honors from
womensfieldhockey.com. A two-time CAA Player of
the Week, Engle was named to the first team All-South Region,
First Team All-CAA, and the CAA All-Tournament Team.
Anders, who ranks second all-time in victories in collegiate
field hockey, is the 2005 Dita/NFHCA South Regional Coach of
the Year. She guided ODU to the national semifinals with the
#4 seed and the CAA Tournament championship.
Joining Engle on the first team are fellow Monarchs Denise
Admiraal, Caroline Nichols, and Dana Sensenig, giving the
Monarch four honorees, more than any other school. Atlantic 10
Champions and NCAA participant Richmond claimed Allie Howard,
Shannon Taylor, and Whitney Wells on the first team, while
William & Mary had a pair of recipients in Anna Davis and
Kelly Giles. Baillie Versfield from JMU and UVa's Katherine
Blair were also named to the first team. Blair is a member of
the USA Junior National team that took seventh place at the
Junior World Cup in September.
