Job Description
Provides support and assistance relative to media relations,
publications, events, internal communications, public
information, publicity and promotional activities on behalf of
the Athletics Communications staff in athletics.
Responsible for production of media guides, game notes,
programs and news releases, and maintenance of files and
statistics related to the respective sports.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Contributes written material to the official athletics Web
site and to hokiesports the newspaper relative to sports and
events. Evening and weekend work required.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree required, with a major in communications,
sports management or a related field preferred (or fulfilling
work requirements to obtain degree); computer skills using
various software packages required; experience working with
collegiate sports coaching staffs preferred;
news-style/feature writing and experience working in a
collegiate Sports Information Department preferred; experience
with Stat Crew Systems and InDesign software preferred. Public
address/announcing experience helpful.
General Information
Virginia Tech employs full-time interns who have major
responsibility for media relations duties related to men’s and
women’s soccer, cross country, track & field, volleyball,
lacrosse, and swimming & diving. Interns also help with
football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
The internship term generally runs July through May.
The job pays $1,200 per month for the term of the internship.
