Football Trio Earns USA South Honors
FERRUM, Va. -- Three Ferrum College football players have been named
Players of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference for their
play in a 44-21 win over Shenandoah University Sept 22 in
Winchester.
Sophomore quarterback
Matt Dobson
(Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) has been named Offensive Player
of the Week. Dobson had 95 yards rushing and three TDs on 16
carries. He was also 5-6 passing for 141 yards, with no
interceptions and one sack. This is Dobson's first Player of
the Week honor.
Freshman running back
Mike Vann
(Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) has been named Offensive Rookie of the
Week. Vann rushed nine times for 175 yards last week against
the Hornets, including an 85-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
This is also Vann's first Player of the Week award.
Freshman defensive back
Zack Brown
(Tifton, Ga./Tifton County) has been named Defensive Rookie of
the Week. Brown had three solo tackles, including one for
loss, two assisted tackles, a quarterback sack and a pass breakup.
He also made an interception at the start of the fourth quarter,
which he returned 44 yards for a score. The honor is a
first-time award for Brown.
Ferrum (2-2, 1-0 USA South) returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 29, at home against
USA South opponent Averett University, the defending league
co-champion. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
