Sandlin Named Men's Tennis Player of the Week
FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College sophomore Josh Sandlin (Richmond,
Va./J.R. Tucker) has been named Men's Tennis Player of the Week
by the USA South Athletic Conference.
Sandlin reached the finals in both singles and doubles at the 2007
Ferrum Fall Classic Sept. 6-7. He advanced to the title match
at #5 singles and paired with freshman Brandon Brown (Lynchburg,
Va./Heritage) to make the finals at #2 doubles. This is
the first Player of the Week honor for Sandlin.
Ferrum placed third of four teams at the Fall Classic.
The Panthers return to action next Saturday, Oct. 6, when they host
the 2007 Bud Skeens memorial Tournament. The event is named in
honor of former Ferrum tennis coach Earl "Bud" Skeens, who led the
Panthers tennis program for 35 seasons.
Greensboro College, Randolph College and Hampden-Sydney College will
all be participating in the Skeens Memorial. Hampden-Sydney is coached by Murrie
Bates, who played for Skeens and is a member of the Ferrum College
Sports Hall of Fame. The event is slated to start at 9 a.m.
