Ferrum Notches Two USA South Volleyball Wins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a pair of USA South Athletic Conference volleyball wins this afternoon on the road, defeating Meredith College and Peace College, both by scores of 3-0.  The matches were part of a league quad meet held at Christopher Newport University.

Ferrum opened the day with a 30-27, 30-21, 30-16 win over Meredith.  Jessica Flanagan had 13 kills and 19 digs, and Mindy Altice had 15 kills.  Jessica Walker added 18 assists and 12 digs, Jessica Washburn had 21 assists and Lauren Thurman had 13 digs.

Coach Nancy Howlett's team then won its fifth consecutive match with a 30-24, 30-16, 30-23 win over Peace.   Walker had 15 assists, Washburn had 14 assists, and Thurman had 19 digs.  Flanagan tallied 13 digs and eight kills, while Altice had 10  kills.

Ferrum improves to 7-5 overall and remains undefeated in USA South play at 3-0.  The Panthers return to action Tuesday, Sept. 18, with a home non-conference match against Eastern Mennonite University at 6:30 p.m.
