Ferrum Upends Shenandoah in Volleyball

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College opened USA South Athletic Conference play tonight at home, sweeping Shenandoah University 3-0.  Game scores were 30-25, 30-21, 30-14.  It was the league-opener for the Hornets as well.

Senior Mindy Altice and sophomore Jessica Flanagan led Ferrum with 16 and 14 kills, respectively.  Senior Jessica Walker tallied 19 assists, while Jessica Washburn had 15. 

The win evened Ferrum's overall record to 5-5, and gave them a 1-0 USA South mark.  Shenandoah is 5-3 with the loss, 0-1 in league play.  Ferrum returns to action Saturday, Sept. 15 at a USA South quad meet in Newport News.  The Panthers face Meredith College at 1 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. match against Peace College.
