Wasps Swarm Ferrum in Football

FERRUM, Va. -- Emory & Henry College picked up a non-conference football win this afternoon over Ferrum College, dominating its way to a 50-7 road win in Ferrum.

Ferrum committed four turnovers, three of which led to Emory & Henry touchdowns.  The Wasps totaled 436 yards in total offense, while the Panthers managed 243.

After an even first quarter in which the teams traded touchdowns, the Wasps scored unanswered four times in the second quarter to take a 35-7 halftime lead.

Jeremy Keens scored first for the Wasps on a 5-yard TD reception from Daniel Booher followed by Luke Hawk's PAT kick for a 7-0 lead.  Ronnie Edwards scored for Ferrum on an 8-yard run, and Clint Slappey's kick knotted the score at 7-7 to close out the first quarter.

Cain Ringstaff, Jonathan Hawkins, Gavin Haynes, and Keene each scored touchdowns for the Wasps in the third quarter ... Ringstaff and Haynes on runs, Hawkins and Keens on passes from Booher ... to push the lead to 35-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Ringstaff slammed in from four yards out and Ryan Shaw hauled in an 11-yard pass from backup QB Mike Simmons late in the game for the final 50-7 count. 

Booher threw for 132 yards on 8-16 passing, tossing three touchdowns.  Booher was sacked twice and picked off once.  Caleb Moore ran for 82 yards on 11 carries for the Wasps, which totaled 293 yards on the ground to Ferrum's 165 yards.  Matt Gillespie had 65 yards on 12 carries and and Ringstaff had 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns on six carries.

Ronnie Edwards had 112 yards and a TD on 13 carries for Ferrum.  Starting QB Matt Dobson went 4-9 through the air for 49 yards with two interceptions and was sacked twice.  Defensively, Osric Robinson had three solo tackles and three assisted tackles for the Panthers, and had an interception early in the first quarter.

Ferrum travels to Amherst next Saturday to take on first-time opponent Southern Virginia University.  The game will be played at Amherst County High School, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
