Hamad, Wendling Join Ferrum Athletic Training Staff

FERRUM, Va. - Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced that Nadia Hamad and Chris Wendling have joined the Ferrum College athletic staff as Assistant Athletic Trainers.

Hamad comes to Ferrum from Arkansas State University, where she served as Athletic Trainer Intern since 2005.  She worked directly with baseball and women's soccer at ASU, but also assisted with the sports of football, women's tennis, women's bowling, men's and women's golf, women's volleyball and track. Hamad also served as trainer for the Universal Cheer Association in 2005, caring for 150 athletes, ages 5-17.

Hamad earned her Master of Science in exercise science from Arkansas State in July of 2007.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in exercise and sports science from the University of Utah in May of 2005.  As a student there, Hamad was a student athletic trainer, student athletic trainer first aider, and host volleyball trainer.

Hamad is a certified athletic trainer through National Athletic Trainer's Association, which includes CPR certification.  She is also an approved clinical instructor.  She has been a member of NATA since 2003.  Hamad is a 2000 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School, in Alexandria, Virginia.  She is the daughter of Valerie Lund, who resides in Alexandria with her husband Fritz Fleming, and Ismail Hamad, who resides in Salt Lake City with his wife Mona.

Wendling comes to Ferrum from the University of North Florida, where he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer.  He worked with baseball, men's and women's cross country and track at North Florida.  Wendling also performed a student internship with the National Football League's Buffalo Bills in the summer of 2004.

Wendling earned his Master of Public Health from North Florida in July of 2007.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education from Grand Valley State University in April of 2005.  As a student at Grand Valley State, Wendling was a student athletic trainer.

Wendling is a certified athletic trainer through National Athletic Trainer's Association.  He is also certified as a  First Aid and Professional Rescuer by the National Safety Council.  Wendling is a 2000 graduate of Warren Cousino High School and the son of Thomas and Linda Wendling of Sterling Heights, Michigan.
