Woodley Joins Ferrum Women's Basketball Staff
FERRUM, Va. -
Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced that Leigh
Ann Woodley has joined the Ferrum College athletic
staff as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.
Woodley replaces Katrina Williams, who recently accepted
the Head Women's Basketball Coach position at Averett
University in Danville, Virginia. Williams was
Assistant Coach for the Panthers the past two seasons.
Last season, Woodley served as Assistant Girls Basketball
Coach at Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke, helping the
Titans win the 2007 Virginia AA State title.
Woodley will
work at Ferrum under third-year Head Women's Basketball Coach Bryan
Harvey. Harvey led his first team in 2005-06 to a
third-place spot in the USA South Athletic Conference
regular season standings, then advanced his team to the
title game of the 2006 USA South tournament. In
2006-07, the Panthers recorded the school's best women's
basketball record, going 21-7 en route to winning the
regular season title and making a second trip to the USA
South title game.
Woodley played basketball four years for Harvey, then head coach at Glenvar High School
in Salem. She helped the Lady Highlanders win the
2001 Virginia A state championship.
Woodley went on to play collegiate basketball at Roanoke
College for one season before transferring to Hollins
University, where she played the next three years for
Karen Harvey, Bryan's wife. Karen is now in her
second year as
Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Ferrum.
Woodley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business
Communications and Technology from Hollins in May of 2007.
While at Hollins, she served as a student lifeguard,
gymnasium attendant, and soccer and basketball office
assistant. Woodley also worked three summers for the
city of Roanoke as a seasonal certified lifeguard.
A 2002 graduate
of Glenvar High School, Woodley is the daughter of Barbara
Woodley of Salem,
Virginia. For more information, please contact the Ferrum
College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306 or
