Ferrum Men Defeat Methodist
Panther Women Fall to Monarchs

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College split a USA South athletic Conference doubleheader this afternoon with Methodist University, falling 71-60 in the women's game and winning 70-69 in the men's.

Women's Box: Methodist 71, Ferrum 60
Men's Box: Ferrum 70, Methodist 69

Sophomore Keith Crump hit an off-balance jumper with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Panther men the win.  Crump had 19 points on 7-15 shooting.

Sophomore Jerrell Wade had a game-high 22 points on 8-13 shooting, including four three-pointers.  Freshman Derek Mitchell had 15 rebounds to go with his six points, and senior Jon Godsey had 10 points.

Travis McBryde and Billy McDade led Methodist (13-8, 5-3 USA South)  with 15 points each.  McDade also had six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.  Tyler Sigmon add 13 points in the loss.

Ferrum (11-10, 5-3 USA South) returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 12, at home against Greensboro College in another USA South doubleheader.  The men's game tips off at approximately 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.

Averett University's loss to Greensboro this afternoon allowed Ferrum to pull back into a three-way tie for first place with Averett and Methodist, all at 5-3 in league play.

In the women's game this afternoon, Ali Davenport had 27 points and 14 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Monarchs held on for the win.  Ferrum opened the game with a 16-4 lead, only to see Methodist come back to take a 34-26 halftime lead.   Miranda Carrasco had 11 points for Ferrum.

Methodist (14-5, 10-2 USA South) was led by Ashley Harris and Amanda Underwood, who had 16 points each.  Courtney Bissette added 14 points and 10 rebounds.  The win over Ferrum pulled Methodist into a tie with Ferrum at 10-2 in league play.

Ferrum (12-7, 10-2 USA South) returns to action Tuesday against USA South opponent Greensboro as well.  Tip off for the women's game is at 5:30 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
