Hodkinson, Leonard Earn USA South Player of the Week Honors
FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College freshmen
Katie
Hodkinson (Mt. Crawford, Va./Spotswood) and freshman
Zack Leonard
(Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) have been honored with Player of
the Week awards from the USA South Athletic Conference.
Hodkinson has been named USA South Women's Soccer Defensive Player
of the Week. The freshman goalkeeper posted two shutouts last
week in a pair of wins over USA South opponents, both on the road.
Hodkinson had four saves in a 6-0 win at Averett University Oct. 24,
and two saves in a 1-0 win at Shenandoah University Oct. 27.
This was Hodkinson's first Player of the Week honor. Also
nominated for the award this week was Tessa Hall from Greensboro
College.
Ferrum closed out the 2007 women's soccer season at 6-10-2 overall
and 5-4 in the USA South under first-year Head Coach Sandy Lagana.
Leonard has been named Football Defensive Rookie of the Week for his
part in Ferrum's 21-7 win over Greensboro Oct. 27 at home.
The freshman defensive end had two solo tackles and nine assisted
tackles against Greensboro. Four and a half of his tackles
were for loss, including two and a half sacks.
Ferrum is currently 5-3 overall in football under 14th-year Head
Coach Dave Davis. The Panthers are 4-1 in USA South play with
two games remaining in the regular season.
Ferrum controls its own destiny, needing to win at North Carolina
Wesleyan College Nov. 3 and at home against Christopher Newport
University Nov. 10 to earn the league's automatic berth into the
NCAA Div. III playoffs.
