Ferrum Splits Pair of Weekend Women's Soccer Matches

FERRUM, Va. -- Freshman Cassandra Heredia scored twice to lead Ferrum College to a 7-0 women's soccer shutout over Peace College on the road Oct. 13.  The Panthers were stopped the next day by Christopher Newport University, 5-0.  Both matches were USA South athletic Conference contests.

Against Peace, senior Corinne Musanti put Ferrum on the board early with a goal at 10:39, with freshman Jessica Lively assisting on the goal.  Lively then score unassisted at 20:41 and Ferrum took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, it was all Ferrum as the Panthers pelted Peace goalkeeper Sherry Revels with another 24 shots in the second half, five of them finding the net.  Ferrum got second-half goals from sophomore Leigha McKusker (56:13), Heredia (60:04 & 74:14), freshman Lea McMillan (72:58), and senior Sarah Palastro (83:31).

Freshman GK Katie Hodkinson had eight saves for Ferrum.  Revels had 18 stops for the Pacers.  The Panthers out-shot Peace 43-13, and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In the shutout loss to CNU, Hodkinson made eight saves for the Panthers.  Emily Chesbro had two goals to lead CNU, which out-shot Ferrum 20-0 and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage.

Ferrum (3-9-1, 2-4 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 17, at non-conference opponent Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina, at 4 p.m.  Coach Sandy Lagana's team will then host North Carolina Wesleyan College Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. in a USA South match-up.
