Vann Earns Back-to-Back USA South Rookie Honors

Mike Vann
(Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) has been named Football Offensive Rookie of the
Week for the second straight week by the USA South Athletic
Conference.
Vann had 327 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns in Ferrum's 48-20
win over USA South opponent Averett University.
He had 187 yards rushing and three TDs on 12 carries, 120 yards and
a TD on a pair of kickoff returns, and 20 a 20-yard TD
reception.
Vann broke the Ferrum and USA South records for longest rush when he
took a handoff in the second quarter and bolted 94 yards to the end
zone. Vann would later score on a 90-yard kickoff return in
the third quarter.
Also nominated this week for the award were James Heasty of
Greensboro College, Blake Nuzzo of Averett University, and Raphael
Amey of Shenandoah University.
In Ferrum's previous game, a 44-21 win over Shenandoah University on
the road Sept. 22, Vann had 175 yards rushing and a touchdown, and
hauled in three passes for 70 yards. He had an 85-yard TD run
in the fourth quarter against the Hornets.
Through five games, Vann leads the USA South in rushing (100.8 yds/gm)
and all-purpose yards (214.5 yds/gm). Ferrum leads the
league in rushing offense with 293.6 yards per game.
Ferrum (3-2, 2-0 USA South) returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 6, at USA South opponent
Maryville College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Maryville,
Tenn.
