Mitchell, Godsey Named All-Tournament at Domino's New Year's Classic

SALEM, Va. -- Senior Jon Godsey and freshman Derek Mitchell were named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2008 Domino's New Years Classic held Jan. 4-at Roanoke College.  The two players scored in double figures today as Ferrum dropped an 83-67 non-conference game to Roanoke College in the title game of the tournament.

Mitchell was 7-11 from the floor for 16 points and had 10 rebounds.  He is averaging 12.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this season, and has had six double-doubles in 13 games.  Godsey had 11 points on 3-11 shooting and went 4-6 from the free thrown line.

Sophomore Keith Crump, who had 21 points in yesterday's overtime win over Swathmore College, had 12 points this afternoon against Roanoke.

Roanoke (7-2) was led today by four players in double figures.  AJ Dowell had 19 points, Zach Milton had 18, Josh Laporte had 15, and Curtis Peery had 11.  The Maroons led 42-35 at halftime and closed with a 37-34 rebounding edge.

The loss was Ferrum's second this season to the Maroons, who defeated the Panthers 73-56 November 26 at the Roanoke Civic Center

Ferrum (6-7) returns to action Wednesday, January 16 when it opens USA South Athletic Conference play against defending league champion Averett University.  Part of a doubleheader, the men's game tips off at 7:30 p.m. following the women.
