Carrasco Earns USA South Player of the Week Honor

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College junior Miranda Carrasco (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) has been named Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference.

Carrasco led Ferrum to a 2-0 record last week in wins over Mary Baldwin College Jan. 8 and Meredith College Jan. 12.  Both were USA South wins, upping Ferrum's win streak to four games.

Carrasco averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds over the two-game stretch.  In a 71-57 win over Mary Baldwin, she had 19 points on 8-12 shooting.  In an 88-71 win over Meredith, Carrasco had 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Also nominated for Player of the Week from around the league were Meredith's Brittany Cornelius, Christopher Newport University's Colandra Rollins, Averett University's Darcie Jones, and Mary Baldwin's Kara Hawkins.

Ferrum (4-5, 2-0 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 16 at home against Averett in a USA South doubleheader.  The women tip of at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by the men.
