Ferrum Women Defeat Meredith for Fourth Straight Win

FERRUM, Va. -- Junior Miranda Carrasco and freshman Kierra Parker had 17 points each as Ferrum College picked up its fourth straight women's basketball win with an 88-71 win over Meredith College January 12 at home.  The win kept Ferrum unbeaten in the USA South Athletic Conference at 2-0.

Senior Ali Davenport and sophomore Tonya Wright both posted double-doubles.  Davenport had 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Wright had 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Junior Caprice Laws had a solid night as well, nearing a triple-double with nine assists, eight points and seven rebounds.

Meredith (5-5, 1-2 USA South) was led by Brittany Cornelius' 22-point performance.  Nicole Hall had 21 points and 11 assists for the Angels, and Hunter Johnson had 13 points.

Ferrum (4-5, 2-0 USA South) out-rebounded Meredith 48-34.  The Panthers outscored Meredith 54-38 in the second half, in which they shot just under 56 percent from the floor  Ferrum's biggest lead was 17 points twice in the second half, including the final score.

Ferrum returns to action Wednesday, January 16, at home against Averett University in a USA South doubleheader.  That game is slated to tip off at  5:30 p.m. and will be followed immediately by the men's game.
