Adams Returns to Ferrum as Defensive Coordinator
FERRUM, Va. - Former Ferrum College Assistant Football
Coach Cleive Adams, who left in the summer of 2005 to become
Assistant Coach at Washington and Lee University in Lexington,
Virginia, will return to his alma mater.
Adams coached seven seasons at Ferrum, from 1988-2004. He
helped the Panthers win USA South Athletic Conference football titles
in 2001 and 2002, both shared. Adams began as a defensive secondary coach then moved to
defensive line prior to the 2002 season. During the 2004 season, his last
before joining the W&L staff, Adams served as
Ferrum's defensive coordinator and special teams coach.
Adams had a major impact on W&L's defensive unit the past two
seasons, particularly the defensive line. Last season,
Washington and Lee led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference total
defense, scoring defense, pass efficiency defense, red zone defense,
opponent 4th down conversions, and turnover margin. A
defensive lineman coached by Adams the past two years earned the Virginia
Division II-III Defensive Lineman of the Year Award, a prestigious
honor given annually by
the Touchdown Club of Richmond.
Washington and Lee won the ODAC football
crown last season, its first since 1985, and made its first-ever
appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Generals
went 14-7 overall the past two seasons, including a 9-3 league mark
in the ODAC.
Adams graduated from Ferrum in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in recreation and leisure, and a minor in psychology.
As a student-athlete, he lettered in football on Ferrum's 1988 South
Region championship team. For more
