Ferrum
Earns Share of '07 USA South Baseball Title
DANVILLE, Va. - Senior third baseman
Brett Thomas
(Danville, Va./George Washington) homered in the first inning, a
two-run blast, to help Ferrum College defeat Averett University 12-4
in USA South Athletic Conference baseball action this afternoon.

The win gives Ferrum a share of the 2007 USA South baseball regular
season title. The Panthers share the title with Methodist
University and North Carolina Wesleyan College. All three
teams closed out USA South play at 7-5.
Ferrum has won five league baseball titles in the past six years.
Coach Abe Naff's teams won or shared regular season titles in 2002,
2003, 2004 and 2007, and won the post-season tournament in 2005.
Freshman outfielder
Michael Nolte (Varina, Va./Varina) went 3-4 this afternoon with
a double and an RBI. Senior
Jimmy Holm (Chantilly,
Va./Chantilly) pitched seven innings in earning the win.
He allowed 11 hits and walked two. Holm allowed four runs, all
earned and struck out one batter. Senior
Justin King (South
Boston, Va./Halifax County) closed out the game, pitching two
innings and allowing no hits.
Methodist earned the top seed in next week's USA South Tournament,
to be played April 12-15 in Burlington, North Carolina. Ferrum
(17-15) will be the #2 seed, followed by N.C. Wesleyan at #3.
Ferrum will face #5 Christopher Newport University Thursday at 4:30
p.m.
