Women's Lacrosse to Play at Greensboro April 10 in USA South Quarterfinals

FERRUM, Va. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the 2007 Women's Lacrosse Tournament seedings, and Ferrum College will open the tournament as the #7 seed.

The tournament will take place April 10-15, with quarterfinal action taking place Tuesday, April 10, on the campuses of the higher seeds.  The semifinals and finals will be played Saturday & Sunday, April 14-15, at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C.

The tournament is part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, in which the league will host championship tournaments in women's lacrosse, men's golf, baseball, softball, and men's & women's tennis, all in the city of Burlington.

Coach Karen Harvey's team will play at #2 Greensboro College in the quarterfinals April 10 in Greensboro, N.C.  The Pride closed out regular season action with a 5-1 league record, and are 8-4 overall.  Ferrum tied for 6th in the league standings with North Carolina Wesleyan College, but the Bishops earned the #6 seed by virtue of their 9-7 head-to-head win over the Panthers March 17.  Ferrum brings a 4-7 overall record into the match, 1-5 in league play.

Christopher Newport University won the regular season title and earned a quarterfinal-round bye as the tournament's top seed.  The other two quarterfinal games will see #3 Methodist University hosting #6 N.C. Wesleyan, and #4 Shenandoah University hosting #5 Averett University.  The complete tournament schedule is listed below.

       #1 Christopher Newport (9-4, 6-0 USA South) bye
       #5 Averett (3-7, 2-4) at #5 Shenandoah (4-8, 2-4)
       #6 N.C. Wesleyan (3-11, 1-5) at #3 Methodist (5-9, 4-2)
       #7 Ferrum (4-7, 1-5) at #2 Greensboro (8-4, 5-1)
 
       Semifinals:  Saturday, April 14 (Burlington, N.C.)
       CNU vs. Averett/Shenandoah winner, 1 p.m.
       NCW/Methodist winner vs. Ferrum/Greensboro winner, 3:30 p.m.
 
       Championship:  Sunday, April 15 (Burlington, N.C.)
       Semifinal winners, 1 p.m.
