FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College senior Wilson Paine (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) has been named Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference after having posted a perfect 6-0 record last week.

Paine went 3-0 at #2 singles and 3-0 at #2 doubles, racking up wins against Lynchburg College March 27, Southern Virginia University March 28, and Eastern Mennonite University March 30.  He helped the Panthers improve to 4-13 overall with wins against each team.

Paine opened the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lynchburg's David O'Brien, and teamed with freshman Brian Cassidy (Purcellville, Va./Park View) for an 8-1 win over Kristian Richardson and Jay Duimstra.

Against Southern Virginia, Paine defeated Adam Cubbage 10-1 in singles, while he and Cassidy beat Joshua Hall and Brandon Flood 8-3 in doubles.  Paine then beat Eastern Mennonite's Nathan Derstine 6-4, 6-1 in singles and paired with Cassidy for an 8-3 win over Ben Ruth and David Bryan in doubles.

Also nominated for Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors this week was David Sutton of Greensboro College.  This is Paine's first honor this season.
