Ferrum Hands
Maine-Presque Isle Pair of Softball Shutouts
FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College picked up a pair of non-conference
softball wins this afternoon at home, shutting out the University of
Maine at Presque Isle 9-0 and 10-0.
Senior DH
Katie Custis (Onancock, Va./Nandua)
went 4-5 in the doubleheader with three home runs.

In the first game, Ferrum got
on the board early courtesy of back-to-back solo home runs from
sophomore catcher
Lauren Thurman (Hardy, Va./Franklin County) and Custis.
Thurman went 3-4 with a home run, four RBI and a run. She
leads the team in RBI this season with 21.
Custis went 2-3 with a solo shot in the with a run. The
Panthers picked up three more runs in the second inning, one in the
fourth and three more in the sixth. The game was stopped due
to the 8-run rule. Senior
Laura Terry (Willis
Wharf, Va./Northampton) pitched five innings to
get the win, allowing two hits and striking out 10 of the 20 batters
she faced. Terry leads
the team this season in innings pitched (102) and strikeouts (74).
In game two, Custis led off the third and fourth innings with solo
homers. She leads the team this season with five home runs and
is second on the team in RBI with 19. After picking up a run
each in the first two innings, the Panthers broke out with five runs
in the third inning and three in the fourth. Game two was also
called after four and a half innings due to the 8-run rule.
Ferrum (15-18) returns to action
Friday, April 6th, at opponent Methodist University in USA South
Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
