Ferrum-NCW Split Softball Doubleheader
FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College came back from a 5-1 deficit in the
bottom of the sixth inning, then scored the game-winning runs in the
eighth inning to take the first half of a USA South softball
doubleheader from North Carolina Wesleyan College 7-6. The
Bishops won 5-1 in the nightcap.

In the first game,
sophomore catcher
Lauren Thurman (Hardy, Va./Franklin County)
went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI. Senior DH
Katie Custis (Onancock, Va./Nandua)
went 2-3 with a run. Junior OF
Kryestyn
Matherly (Roxboro, N.C./Person County) went 2-3 with two RBI,
a run and a sacrifice fly.
Senior pitcher
Laura Terry (Willis Wharf,
Va./Northampton) earned the win. She pitched a complete
game, scattering eight hits over eight innings, allowing six runs (5
earned), walking eight and striking out six of the 41 batters she
faced.
In the second game, the Panthers managed just four base hits, all
singles. Senior DP Katie Custis went 2-3.
Senior
Kim Cox (Gladys,
Va./William Campbell) pitched a complete game and absorbed
the loss. She allowed eight hits and five runs (3 earned),
while striking out three and walking three of the 33 batters she
faced.
Ferrum (11-18, 2-9 USA
South) returns to action April 1st with a non-conference
doubleheader at Guilford College starting at 2 p.m. The
Panthers then host University of Maine at Presque Isle April 3rd at
