Ferrum Tops SVU in Baseball

Ferrum, Va. - Senior outfielder Matt Gammon (Blanch, N.C./Bartlett Yancey) went 3-5 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base to lead Ferrum College to a 7-2 non-conference baseball win over Southern Virginia College at home this afternoon.

Senior third baseman Brett Thomas (Danville, Va./George Washington) went 2-3 with a double, a run, an RBI and three stolen bases.

Freshman pitcher Jon Wilson (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) picked up his first win of the season, scattering six hits over six innings and striking out five, while walking none of the 25 batters he faced.  Wilson allowed two runs, both earned.

Southern Virginia (4-20) was led by second baseman Logan Mann, who went 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.  Michael Lara absorbed the loss for the Knights.  He pitched four innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out four and walking four.
